I loved the stories Wanda tells about the other planets. The way she reminisces and seems to really have loved all the time she spent everywhere is beautiful. It really is a story within a story, which makes it even more interesting. You have the struggles of the present and the "history" of both Wanda and Mel. Even though one is human and one has been everything from sea weed to a spider, they still have so much in common. Love and lonliness are universal.
