Oh, I'm so glad you like Friday Night Lights. It has really become one of my favorite movies (and not just because of Garrett, he's only partly responsible, lol). I feel so bad for those kids - that whole town puts so much pressure on them that they don't get to just feel like kids. The documentaries on the dvd are really interesting because they show the real guys and interview them today.
Definitely the saddest story has to be Boobie, he wanted so desperately to give his uncle a home and get them out of the slums. He was in foster homes when his uncle found him and decided to raise him. Destroying his knee destroyed everything because he wasn't equipped to handle anything else. All he had was football. I know the filmmakers have really latched onto him and try to help him out - he had a cameo in the movie and I believe he has ties to the TV show.
